Auto Tips

Don’t wait to change your oil!
Did you know the longer you wait between oil changes, the harder it is on your engine? The older the oil is, the more it breaks down, and it cannot lubricate your engine properly, which means your engine has to work harder, which means your engine components will wear down prematurely and cost you more money in repair bills. In addition, when you come in for an oil change, we not only change your oil and filter, we thoroughly inspect your vehicle for parts that look worn that may need to be replaced soon, before they break and possibly leave you stranded on the side of the road. So even though dealerships and manufacturers are telling consumers they only need to change their oil every 6,000 to 10,000 miles, we do not agree with that! We have seen the quality of the oil when customers have waited that long between oil changes, and their oil is black with sludge build up. Oil like that is, obviously, in no shape to protect your engine. Our philosophy is this: Don’t be penny-wise and pound-foolish. Stick to the old rule of every 3,000 miles for your oil changes and you’ll always be sure that your oil is doing its job in protecting your engine and that we’re doing our job in catching those minor issues before they become major ones. Saving a few bucks a year by skipping two oil changes may save you money now, but it could cost you much more in expensive repair bills down the road!

Maintainence makes good sense
Did you know that, with proper maintenance, your family vehicle can be still chugging along at 150,000 to 200,000 miles? Here are some secrets to help you get the maximum life out of your vehicle:

First and foremost, read your owners manual! It sounds simple, but it can’t be stressed enough. Inside the powerful little book are the manufacturer’s recommendations for what services are needed when. If you do nothing else, make sure your vehicle receives all its recommended services.

When you’re looking over that section, you may see the phrase “Severe Operating Conditions” and wonder if that applies to you. Well, do you do any of the following? Drive in stop-and-go traffic? Make repeated short trips? Drive in extreme heat or cold weather? Tow a trailer? Drive on rough and dirty roads? If you answered yes to any of these, then you should consider adhering to the severe service maintenance schedule.

The biggest secret? Coming in for your regular maintenance can save you big bucks and time down the road. At your regular services, we can spot a part that’s on it’s last legs. Replacing it now may avoid the hassle of a break down, the cost of a tow, or more serious damage caused by the failure of the part.

It’s really that simple. Just do all your recommended services. It’s really not much of a secret, but it’s often overlooked by busy owners. Don’t let that happen to you.
